Commissions

Stories that open
in a browser.

Animated, scored, self-contained. No app. No download. No account. No data harvested. One link, and it plays on whatever phone the person already has.

What this is

I write and build short animated stories that run entirely inside a web page. They are not video — nothing buffers, nothing streams, nothing needs a good connection. They are not an app, so nobody has to install anything or agree to anything.

Each one is a single file. It can live on your site, behind a QR code on a wall, in an email, or on a card in someone's hand. If they can open a link, they can read it.

Who this tends to be for
Museums & heritage

A story for a room, or an object

Interpretation that isn't a wall panel. Works on visitors' own phones from a QR code, and keeps working at home afterwards. No hardware to install, maintain or replace.

Charities & campaigns

The thing a case study can't do

A real story, told properly, in four minutes — for supporters, funders or a campaign moment. Reaches people on low-cost data plans and old devices, which most campaign media quietly does not.

Publishers & authors

Something to send, not something to advertise

A prologue, a companion piece, a short original tied to a title. Shareable as a single link, with nothing between the reader and the story.

Education & public bodies

Difficult material, made readable

Explaining a process, a right, or a service to people who will not read a leaflet about it. Built for accessibility, and for phones rather than desktops.

Selected work

The Blind Lady

Drama · 12 parts

A twelve-part ensemble drama aboard a travelling court. Written, animated, scored and built as a single continuous series.

The 9.58 to Wend's End

Anthology · 8 parts

A morning train the length of the country. An anthology of strangers, in eight parts.

The Morning Through the Glass

Picture book

A read-aloud picture book for children, built in the same medium. Tap to turn, or have it read to you.

Where it can live

Each piece is one file, around 40–80KB — smaller than a single photograph. No framework, no plugin, no tracker, nothing to keep updated. That makes it unusually portable:

It works on old phones and slow connections, needs no app and no account, and collects no data about anybody who opens it. You own the file outright — there is no platform to be locked into and nothing that expires.

How it works

Scale and budget

A single short piece, a series, or a set of linked stories for one site or campaign. Projects typically run from a few weeks to a few months.

Budgets start in the low thousands for a single commissioned piece and scale with length, cast and accessibility scope. If you have a fixed budget, say so at the start and I'll tell you honestly what fits inside it.

Grant-funded projects welcome — I'm happy to be costed into a bid before it's submitted, and to provide what you need for the application.

Talk to me about a project

Tell me what the story is, roughly when you need it, and roughly what you have to spend. If it isn't a fit, I'll say so quickly — and if it is, I'll come back with a shape and a figure.

How the work is made. Every story is written by me. The animation is built with AI assistance, as it is across this site. I'm happy to talk through exactly what that means for a commission, and to work to whatever your organisation's policy requires.
